Work With Us

LAS Medical Coaches™ provide structure, support, and accountability in measurable ways, with coaching options for academic and professional preparation and remediation.

Executive Functioning Support and LAS Coaching

Drawing on coaching methodologies used with elite performers, such as professional athletes, musicians, and academic decathletes, LAS Coaching engages students at the point of need to learn adaptive strategies and professional development protocols that are effective.

LAS Coaching provides structure, support, and accountability to manage academic and professional obstacles, understand personal strengths (and relative weaknesses), and learn to self-direct adaptive approaches in school and at work.

Case Management in Medical Education

LAS approaches case management holistically, with one-on-one coaching that integrates a needs assessment with advocacy, proactive outreach, and progress tracking. The goal is to remove barriers and connect individuals to resources that support academic and professional success.

Though different from academic coaching, LAS incorporates the initial consultation process into the needs assessment to ensure individualized support and accessible outreach for students and early career physicians.

LAS Case Management emphasizes strong interpersonal communication skills and collaboration to foster well-being and successful outcomes.

Clinical Social Work in Medical Education

Clinical social work focuses on assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of burnout, mental illness, and other emotional and behavioral disturbances. LAS works at the border of medical education and clinical social work and, therefore, has a unique understanding of the complex challenges associated with medical education. Contact LAS for more information about one-on-one support and group-based options.

Personal Essay Writing and ERAS Support

Your grades are in, and your letters of recommendation are in process.  What about your personal essay? It may feel intimidating to put your thoughts into words and write from a personal perspective rather than respond to an academic prompt.

At LAS, we know the importance of finishing strong, particularly when you’re not really done. The next step is residency or fellowship, and we’ve coached thousands as they navigate this process. We’ll help you focus on your subjective, first-person narrative and personal experiences, with the creativity this essay deserves.

Study Skills Counseling and Educational Therapy

LAS offers study skills counseling and educational therapy to students and early-career physicians in medical education. LAS Coaches provide structured support for clients with accommodations and for those requesting accommodations or appealing boards when they have been denied.

Loren and the LAS Team are trained to incorporate information from score reports and neuropsychological evaluations to design actionable steps; more importantly, they understand that being granted test accommodations does not ensure test readiness.

Career Coaching

LAS provides career coaching services to individuals who are identifying work goals or transitioning from school to work or from one occupation to another. LAS Career Coaching™ is designed for academic, vocational, and work pursuits. Using career development approaches, LAS supports various stages of career decision-making and specializes in working with students and professionals in higher education, medical education, and allied health education.

    Initial Consultation

We believe that the first step towards achieving success is to listen and understand each student’s unique needs. LAS Medical Coaching begins with an initial consultation, which consists of an initial intake meeting (in-person or via videoconference), a review of LAS forms and the student’s private documentation (neuropsychological reports, 504 plans, IEP’s, transcripts, standardized testing reports, etc.), and when applicable, consultations with deans, program directors, and allied professionals. The Initial Consultation is a preliminary step designed for new and returning clients to clarify personal learning goals and presenting concerns, previous academic and test-taking experiences, prior and current academic information including current support, and applicable academic/neuro/bio/psycho/social information. Through our initial consultation, we receive a true assessment of where students are at in their medical education journey.

    Co-Constructing an Individual Education Plan

Following an Initial Consultation, our intake coordinator will compile all of the information and incorporate it into a written report. This report will include a description of presenting goals, concerns, and identified learning goals. It will also include previous empirical information, meeting impressions, and a proposed Individualized Education Plan with measurable outcomes and a shared Progress Tracker, for test preparation.

    Scholastic Management Support

After the report is written, clients will receive a secured copy and an individualized Medical Coach. Medical Coaches are assigned by the intake coordinator and the LAS Executive Director based on expertise, goodness of fit, and availability. This Medical Coach will have expertise and training to provide academic support and advocacy, progress tracking, resource identification, and accountability. If needed, our Medical Coaches are also trained to assist with organization skills and strategies that address inattention, distraction, reading challenges, and executive function difficulties.

Success Stories

Medical Coaches support students through test prep, remediation, study skills counseling, educational therapy, clinical social work, IEP & Section 504 planning, personal essay support for ERAS Application, and executive functioning. Medical Coaches are assigned to each student after an initial consultation and individual education plan has been constructed.

Our pricing depends on the duration of medical coaching support. Give us a call and we’ll talk through pricing with you.

Whether you’re contending with burnout or searching for new test preparation strategies, our highly-trained Medical Coaches are here to support you through the process.
