Loren Deutsch, LCSW, MEd, MA
Founder, Executive Director
Loren Deutsch is a professional educational therapist and licensed clinical social worker who works at the border of two disciplines: medical education and clinical social work. Loren is a university lecturer, curriculum developer, national presenter, and education consultant. She has maintained a clinical practice since 1995, where she developed the Academic Skills Assessment Program (ASAP), at the University of Chicago.
At that time, Loren responded to an increased demand for faculty training and academic support for medical students and residents, particularly those experiencing academic difficulty. Loren met with students and residents at the University of Chicago for medical coaching and consulting services, while developing the LAS Learning Modules and Test Prep curriculum in the 1990s. The LAS Learning Modules are categorized into interconnected segments, each with defined learning objectives, measurable goals, self-reflective practices, and progress tracking.
In 2010, Loren founded Loren Academic Services, Inc. (LAS), an educational services company that specializes in Coaching, Curriculum Development, and Consulting for students, residents, faculty, and medical centers. The LAS Learning Modules include differentiated instruction, principles of clinical social work, and research-based practices. All LAS Coaches are trained in the LAS Learning Modules and Test Prep Methods. They collaborate with Loren nationally and offer coaching, consulting, and curriculum design services.
LAS is committed to upholding diversity and inclusion in medical and general education and removing barriers and obstacles that prevent representation. LAS supports individual well-being and strives to eliminate the culture of silence and stigma often associated with academic challenges and psychological disturbances. Our mission is to ensure that ALL students learn, achieve, and succeed by ensuring that ALL students have access to education and opportunities for recruitment, retention, and promotion.
Loren is a mother of four adult children whom she loves dearly. She replenishes in the mountains while hiking, skiing, camping, and mountain biking.
