Loren Deutsch, LCSW, MEd, MA
Founder, Executive Director
Loren Deutsch is a professional educational therapist and licensed clinical social worker who has worked at the border of medical education and clinical social work for 25 years. Loren is a university lecturer, curriculum developer, national presenter and education consultant. She has maintained a clinical practice since 1995, when she began working at the University of Chicago, as the director of the Academic Skills Assessment Program.
At that time, Loren was responding to an increased demand for academic support for medical students and residents in academic difficulty and faculty requests for training. She developed the LAS Curriculum and LAS Methodology (LAS Method) and began implementing it in the late 1990’s. The LAS Curriculum is defined by inter-connected learning modules for medical education, the allied health professions, and general education with measurable outcomes.
In 2010, Loren founded Loren Academic Services, Inc. (LAS), an educational services company that specializes in Coaching, Curriculum Development, and Consulting for students, residents, faculty, and medical centers. The LAS Method is a learning approach that combines principles of clinical social work and education theory into practice. Examples include differentiated teaching, research-based strategies, and self-reflective practices. All LAS Coaches are trained in the LAS Curriculum and LAS Methodology, and collaborate with Loren to train students, residents, and faculty in the LAS Method.
LAS is committed to uphold diversity and inclusion in medical and general education and remove barriers and obstacles that prevent representation. LAS supports individual well-being and strives to eliminate the culture of silence and stigma often associated with academic challenges and psychological disturbances. Our mission is to ensure that ALL students learn, achieve, and succeed by ensuring that ALL students have access to education and opportunities for recruitment, retention, and promotion.
Loren is a mother of four adult children whom she loves dearly. She replenishes outside, by hiking, riding, camping, climbing, and skiing in the mountains!
